Catching Up with Tomo Nakayama of Grand Hallway on Acting in Touchy Feely :: Movies :: Features :: Paste
Photo by Alicia Palaniuk Tomo Nakayama is used to performing, but the Grand Hallway lead singer usually does it with a guitar in his hand and a microphone at his mouth. Acting in a movie — and a movie by one of the most exciting emerging directors around — is a far different thing, altogether. The Japanese-Vietnamese-American talked with us recently to tell about falling in love with Ellen Page in Lynn Shelton’s new film Touchy Feely….
Thanks everyone for coming to our west coast shows. We had a lot of fun and hope to hit the road again soon. Tomo is playing some solo shows on the east coast this October, including 10/26@The Rockwood and 10/27@Pete’s Candy Store (more dates to come soon). Also, here’s a nice write up about Touchy Feely from USA Today that mentions our song “Horses”.
Versicolor is now taking pre-orders for the new “Horses” 7-inch. The first 500 copies will be on limited edition translucent gold colored vinyl, with magnificent screen printed artwork by Frida Clements. It’ll be shipped on or before 8/13, and you’ll get an immediate download of both songs on the 7-inch (plus two bonus songs!)
We’re also going to be playing a few shows down the west coast:
8/19 - Axe&Fiddle, Cottage Grove, OR
8/20 - Cafe DuNord, San Francisco, CA
8/21 - Armadillo Recrods, Davis, CA
8/22 - Mississippi Studios, Portland, OR
8/23 - The Warehouse (House Show info here), Tacoma, WA
8/24 - Columbia City Theater, Seattle, WA
Official trailer for “Touchy Feely”, featuring a snippet of our song “Horses”. The movie will be in theaters 9/6, and the Grand Hallway version of “Horses” will be on 7" colored vinyl this August.

Thanks to the folks who came out to the show last night. We had a wonderful time playing with Keith Abbott, Drew Victor, and Night Tapes, and it was a serious treat to play with the string quartet of Alina To, Alex Guy, Natalie Mai Hall, and our own Jaclyn Shumate. Our next shows will be 5/25 as a stripped down duo at the Heartland (a benefit to replace Aaron Otheim’s keyboard and amp which were recently stolen), and with the full-band at Folklife on 5/26.
